Brewers' Christian Yelich Nails Game 3 Messaging As Only a Captain Can

The Milwaukee Brewers made the right call with Christian Yelich as the captain.

The Milwaukee Brewers have never won a World Series title in the franchise's long history. That could change as soon as Tuesday night.

Milwaukee is one win away. That statement in itself would've shocked the vast majority of Brewers fans for years and years and years. But it's the case now. The Brewers have taken care of business throughout the postseason so far and are one win away from a four-game series sweep after winning, 10-1, on Monday night. Milwaukee is on the doorstep, but it's important to take the moment in. Fortunately, the Brewers have Christian Yelich as the franchise's captain and he just gets it. His messaging about the fanbase after Game 3 is a clear sign of that, as transcribed by Brandon Wile of The Score.

"We understand what this team means to people," Yelich said. "We understand, that when the Brewers are playing well, it directly impacts the happiness of the community, and people's lives. People have grown up with this team. People have made memories with their parents, kids, best friends, and a lot of those common memories are with the Brewers. You don't take that lightly."

Again, Yelich just gets it. This is a guy who has been an All-Star and an MVP. He's a clear-cut superstar, but he clearly hasn't changed. Despite all of the individual success, this is the guy leading the charge for Milwaukee as a whole.

Milwaukee's Captain

There were World War II veterans at Game 1 thanks to Yelich. 98-year-old and 102-year-old WWII veterans Bill Wattleton and Sverre Vinje were at Game 1.

Again, this guy simply gets it. And has for a long time. He's the captain of the Brewers for a reason. Of course, he has been great on the field. Arguably, he is the most important player in the history of the franchise. His arrival in Milwaukee all the way back ahead of the 2018 season changed the trajectory of the organization. Since then, Milwaukee has missed the playoffs just once. Now, Milwaukee is on the doorstep of the franchise's first World Series title.

Throughout the playoffs, Yelich has slashed .314/.400/.400 with five RBIs, three stolen bases, one double, one triple and five runs scored in 10 games played. His play speaks for itself. But it's important to note that he's far more than just a ballplayer. The fanbase clearly isn't lost on him. The history of the franchise is important to him. This is a guy who also said that he would block off four or five hours every spring to have dinner with Bob Uecker to hear his stories, per FanSided's Robert Murray.

There isn't a better representative of Milwaukee baseball and with one more win, the franchise will be rewarded with glory.
