Video reveals LeBron James' explicit rant at Knicks fans in 76ers debut
LeBron James clashed with a fan during his 76ers debut at Madison Square Garden, which Philadelphia departed victorious

LeBron James reminded a New York Knicks fan that he’s from Ohio during an X-rated exchange in the Philadelphia 76ers’ opening night win.

On Tuesday, the 76ers crashed the Knicks’ ring ceremony and banner-raising night by clinching a 106-100 win at Madison Square Garden. Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia in scoring, dropping a game-high 28 points as the 76ers began the season with a win.

Making his debut with a new franchise for just the fourth time in his storied career, James scored 14 points and added nine rebounds and seven assists in a fine showing. The 41-year-old had to overcome a hostile New York crowd, which culminated in a face-to-face showdown with one vocal fan.

In the first half, James clashed with a fan, who appeared to heckle him about leaving the Los Angeles Lakers. Video showed James shouting: “Ain’t nothing soft in the Midwest. I don’t know what the f--- you talking about.”

The fan then responded again, to which James replied: “I’m not from the West Coast. I’m from Ohio, baby. I’m not a Midwest kid, I’m a Ohio baby. F--- is you talking about?”

Earlier in the night, James reached the free-throw line where he was met with chants of “We don’t want you!” The reaction came after James said that he would have signed with the Knicks had the franchise not won the championship.

“I had visions of playing in Madison Square Garden and finishing my career in the Garden,” James told ESPN.

“One of the best places I've ever played. I think it's the No. 1 arena in the world, as far as for a basketball player. But after they beat San Antonio, I was like, 'Hey, I can't.' I couldn't do it.”

“Y'all wouldn't have let me lay that down, at all," James added, referring to the media. “But much respect to the Knicks, obviously. An unbelievable team, unbelievable players. Shout out Jalen Brunson. I love that guy, he's unbelievable. But, yeah, I'm happy where I'm at, and I'm looking forward to it.”

With the Knicks off the table, James chose to sign a two-year deal worth $8 million with the 76ers. His lower contract allowed him to sign with Philly, joining a lineup that includes Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, and former MVP Joel Embiid - and they’re off to a winning start.

“I feel a lot better,” James told NBC Sports. “Still getting my rhythm. Obviously, you know, just a little bit over two weeks with the new squad. I like the way we play. I think we played exceptionally well, especially defensively. We didnt shoot the ball well, but we have capable shooters. We know that.”

He added: “It’s just about winning. Just trying to make plays to win. Very familiar with every scenario that this game has offered. Blessed to be able to play it still at this level, and blessed to be able to play in this building. This building is so special. So it’s fun.”

The 1-0 76ers are next in action against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Thursday.
