The pair have entered three horses – Cadell, Myretown and Walk On Quest – for the 3.50pm Edinburgh Gin Chase, a three-mile-two-furlong handicap Scudamore previously won as a sole handler with Mysteree and Some Chaos in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
“They are all previous course winners so the track will be no problem,” said Scudamore.
“Cadell has won three times at Kelso and is at his best when able to dictate in small fields.
“Myretown has come back refreshed after a good summer break and the ability is there to win another good staying handicap or two providing he can put it all together.
“Walk On Quest struggled in the depths of winter last season but has appreciated getting back on a sounder surface this spring and summer. He is likely to have another race or two before avoiding the deep ground.”
Dan Skelton, crowned champion trainer for the first time last term, is also triple-handed among nine entries pencilled in to vie for that race’s top prize of £20,812 with Diamond Dealer, Mumford’s Magic and Palamon.
There will be prize money of £16,000 up for grabs in the 4.25pm Nuts Well Handicap Chase over two miles and a furlong and two-time Kelso hurdle winner Smoke Trail, another horse trained by Russell and Scudamore, is in line for his debut over fences, with Derek Fox already booked for the ride.
Seven other provisional entries for the race include Coup de Coeur, representing North Yorkshire’s Micky Hammond and Becky Smith, being lined up for a first win at the Borders track.
Saturday’s seven-race card begins with the two-mile Stay for the After-Party National Hunt Maiden Hurdle at 1.40pm and Dumfries and Galloway trainer Daragh Bourke’s Just a Poet is among 11 entries.
Gates open at 11.30am and the last race of the meeting is off at 4.55pm.
Tickets cost £25 in advance or £30 on the day. For details, go to https://kelso-races.co.uk/events/edinburgh-gin-chase-day-2026/
