The New York Jets have not posted a winning record since 2015, when Todd Bowles led the team to 10 wins, though they missed the playoffs.

This team is starving for success, and after last year, getting over five wins would be a nice start, but even that may be too far-fetched. During the Jets’ latest loss to the then-winless Miami Dolphins, a moment between two offensive players and one coach captured the frustration of this Jets season.

Garrett Wilson Goes Off on QB Geno Smith and Coach Seth Ryan

In the fourth quarter, with Jets star WR Garrett Wilson on just two receptions up to that point, Wilson was seen shouting at quarterback Geno Smith on the sideline, and some viewers believed his frustration was directed at pass game coordinator Seth Ryan. The Jets had some offensive success throughout the game, but Wilson is a star for a reason, and the coaching staff’s failure to get him the ball is a mistake.

Wilson is 12th in PFN’s WR Impact Metric, and in the Jets’ two wins, he was clearly more involved in the offense.

After the interaction on the sidelines between Wilson, Smith, and Ryan, the NFL World had its reactions to the moment:

PFN’s X account pointed out that while Wilson wasn’t getting involved, rookie Omar Cooper was having himself a day, “Meanwhile Omar Cooper Jr. eating.”

One fan questioned how long it is going to take for the Jets to move on from Wilson and pair him with a better QB: “How long before he gets traded to a real team with a real QB?”

One Jets fan defended Wilson, and even hoped that New York would move on from him so he could play somewhere else, “All the stuff we put Garrett through these last 4 seasons, I don’t blame you, Garrett. Request out.”

A San Francisco 49ers fan called for GM John Lynch to trade for Wilson after seeing this interaction: “John Lynch, please.”

One fan wants Wilson to get out as soon as possible and flourish somewhere else, “Free my guy get him outta there 😭”.

One Philadelphia Eagles fan agreed with what Wilson was doing on the sidelines: “He’s not wrong.”

One Jets fan pointed out that Wilson is talking to Ryan in the clip and complained that offensive coordinator Frank Reich isn’t getting Wilson open: “Actually, he’s talking to Seth Ryan, since FRANK REICH isn’t scheming him open.”

Many agreed with Wilson’s frustrations, and it’s hard not to.

After the game, Jets reporters asked head coach Aaron Glenn about the interaction on the sideline, and according to Nick Faria, Glenn said this:

“That’s tough. I’m going to put that on myself. That’s in the gameplan to get him involved.”

The seat is hot for Glenn, so he is right; it is on him to get his star receiver the ball, even if he coaches the defensive side of the ball. If the Jets want to turn this season around, they have to do it.
