3 Positives and 3 Negatives to take from Crystal Palace 0 Newcastle United 2

It ended Crystal Palace 0 Newcastle United 2.

Ahead of each game we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives following the match.

An interesting game at Selhurst Park…

Plenty to talk about after this Premier League game.

Newcastle United taking the game away from Crystal Palace when they tore the home side apart in the opening quarter of an hour of the second half, scoring twice and unlucky not to add a couple more as they cut the Eagles open.

On this occasion it is David Punton:

POSITIVES

Capital gains

It was a huge win, especially for the manager.

There are fine lines in football, and just one precious win saw us end the day 8th place, after a brief spell in 7th prior to the Leeds game at the mackems.

It had the feel of a big day for Matthias Jaissle and while big tests lie ahead, the result today probably gets us back to level par for the season.

Jaissle must have got his team talk right at half time, as his players duly delivered a blistering 15 minutes that won him the game.

That’s three games in London and he’s overseen wins in all of them.

Credit to him for today. He made five changes and it’s paid off.

Suddenly we are just two points off Chelsea who are fifth.

Numbers man

A much-needed contribution from Harvey Barnes today.

That is two goals and two assists so far this season. One thing for sure with Barnes, he always does good numbers.

He took that goal really well, something we’ve come to expect from him.

There was also a vast improvement from Nico today after his Villa display. That’s more like it from him.

Here come the cavalry

It was a welcome sigh to see Dan Burn, Fab Schar, Will Osula and Amar Dedic back in the starting line-up.

We just look a better prospect when those guys are on the park.

Elanga back from the bench too, along with Ramsey, were also a major plus points.

NEGATIVES

Slumber party

The least said about that first half the better. It was dire stuff, which can happen, of course.

Jaissle appeared to indicate the gale force winds hampered us in the first half. Was that really the case?

We picked up where we left off against Villa.

Don’t get too carried away

Crystal Palace are terrible.

I know the old adage goes that you can only beat what’s put in front of you but delight should perhaps be tempered as harder challenges lie ahead.

We’re grateful Palace are so poor!

The kids are alright?

I would really love to see the manager make more use of Sean Steur and Bazoumana Toure.

That’s a fair bit of the transfer budget left watching on from the bench.

I’d like to see the manager be braver and use these new players more.

It was also disappointing to see Fernandez-Pardo missing through illness and no Lewis Miley today.
