A recent mock draft from ESPN's Field Yates ended up being a harsh reminder for the Indianapolis Colts.
Taking an early look ahead to the 2027 NFL Draft, Yates predicted the first 10 selections in his mock. With the Colts at 2-4 currently, they would hold the 10th overall pick -- except they don't.
That pick still belongs to the New York Jets as part of the Sauce Gardner trade in which the Colts sent a 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and AD Mitchell to New York.
When the trade was made, the Colts were off to a red-hot start in 2025, but it has since backfired. Indianapolis ended that year on a seven-game losing streak; they are currently 2-4 this season and just fired GM Chris Ballard.
Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon said in a statement that the Colts' goals for the 2026 season remain the same, even after moving on from Ballard. However, another loss or two could result in the season spiraling.
For a team that is on the verge of rebuilding, the Colts will be without a first-round pick next year and potentially a top-10 selection.
