After the Washington Commanders succumbed to defeat against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, the NFC East has made some unwanted history.
The NFC East is historically the most successful division in the NFL. Between them, the Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, and Commanders have combined for 14 Super Bowl wins. That is four more than the AFC West, who are second on the list.
Recent history hasn’t been all that great for the division, though. Only four of those wins have come since the turn of the century, two apiece for the Giants and the Eagles. Due to all the teams’ performances in the last two weeks, they have now achieved an unfortunate milestone.
In Week 5, both the Cowboys and the Eagles suffered losses against Florida teams while the Commanders and Giants played out a tie. Week 6 saw Dallas lose against the Packers while the Saints won narrowly against New York.
Philadelphia’s woes continued too, they lost 24-15 against the Panthers. And after Washington failed to win, this means that none of the teams have booked a win in consecutive weeks. Adam Schefter pointed out how this has led to the division setting an unfortunate record.

“If the Commanders lose tonight on Monday Night Football to the 49ers, the NFC East would become the first division in NFL history to be winless in consecutive weeks in which all teams in the division played a game. And two of the teams played each other last week,” Schefter had written before MNF.
“NFC East made history, going two straight weeks without a win,” he added after the Commanders result.

It is impossible to predict which of these teams will win the division at this point, and serious questions are being asked about every single franchise. The Eagles and Cowboys play each other next week, and fans will be hoping that marks the end of this unfortunate streak.
