The Philadelphia Eagles will be without another wide receiver when they take on the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football after Dontayvion Wicks was ruled out for Week 7 on account of injuring his ankle in the loss to the Carolina Panthers.
The timing is not ideal for Philadelphia, which has lost four straight games and is looking to turn its season around. With DeVonta Smith also ruled out due to a lingering hamstring injury, Philadelphia will be without its top two wide receivers as it looks to snap a four-game losing streak against Dallas.
Wicks injured his ankle late in the Eagles’ Week 6 loss to the Carolina Panthers. However, the ankle problem came after he had already been dealing with a hamstring injury for several weeks.
Wicks initially strained his hamstring during practice ahead of Week 5. He played through the issue against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 and then against Carolina in Week 6.
The wide receiver did not participate in Thursday, Friday, or Saturday’s practice sessions. After missing all three workouts, Wicks was ruled out for Monday night’s game.
This will be the first game Wicks has missed this season. Through six games, Wicks has recorded 19 receptions for 284 yards and one touchdown. He also holds a 75.9 PFN Impact Score, ranking 29th among wide receivers.
The Eagles have not announced a specific return date for Wicks. He has not been placed on injured reserve, but that alone does not confirm how soon he will be back.
His availability for Week 8 will depend on how his ankle responds to treatment and whether he can return to practice during the coming week.
With Wicks and Smith sidelined by injuries, Tanner McKee will need Hollywood Brown, Makai Lemon, and Darius Cooper to step up and help the offense.
McKee stepped into the starting role after Jalen Hurts was ruled out indefinitely following a diagnosis of multiple blood clots in his lungs. Losing additional receivers makes an already difficult situation even more challenging for the backup quarterback.
The Eagles enter Week 7 with a 2-4 record, ranking 26th overall in PFN’s Impact Metrics with a 66.2 Offense Impact Score and a 73.9 Defense Impact Score.
Head coach Nick Sirianni and first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion are under increasing pressure to find solutions and get the offense moving in the right direction.
