Dominik Szoboszlai could be missing for "some time", according to Andoni Iraola, as the Liverpool midfielder suffered another hamstring issue over the weekend.
The playmaker suffered with an overload of minutes during the international break, which resulted in him feeling tightness in his hamstring that was a cause for concern for the coaching staff.
In response, Liverpool decided against risking the star for games against Manchester City and LASK, but believed that the clash with Brentford was the perfect time for him to feature once again.
Ultimately, that proved to be too soon, as the 25-year-old had to be withdrawn around the 30-minute mark, leaving the Reds with some concerns surrounding a long-term lay-off for such a key player.
With Iraola admitting that he could be sidelined for a little while, as the club waits for the results of a scan, the manager will now have to consider his midfield options for the coming weeks.
It comes ahead of a busy run of fixtures across all competitions, from the Premier League to the Champions League, and even the EFL Cup. So, with that said, here's a look at three options the manager can call upon to replace Szoboszlai in some key matches in the next few weeks.
Perhaps the most obvious replacement for Szoboszlai will be Ryan Gravenberch. The midfielder hasn't been handed too many opportunities to start this season since Alexis Mac Allister returned to action, but he could be given a run of games in the next few weeks.
The Netherlands international was the initial replacement for his teammate in the clash with Manchester City, but his red card in the match meant that he had to serve a suspension against Brentford.
With that now out of the way, Gravenberch can now feature in the Premier League, while he may also look to nail down his spot in the Champions League.
The 24-year-old may feel he has a point to prove, after a competitive start to the campaign in the midfield ranks among Liverpool's options.
Academy star Trey Nyoni has certainly made his mark on the senior team so far, making himself a regular part of the squad through the season so far.
The 19-year-old impressed in preseason, and has been handed a few opportunities to be gradually introduced into the team with occasional starts and substitute appearances.
Nyoni was the initial replacement for Szoboszlai during the match with Brentford, perhaps pointing to him being given a start, even though Gravenberch is back from his suspension in the Premier League.
Another midfield option available to Iraola is academy ace James McConnell, who has been in and around the senior team during the campaign so far.
While he has quite a battle to get in ahead of Gravenberch and Nyoni, the 22-year-old has been trusted to play a role this season, and could be called upon at any time.
That has included featuring in different positions, having played as a number ten during the cup for Iraola, which came as something of a surprise call.
