Travis Hunter’s Wife Leanna Lenee Fires Back at Shannon Sharpe After Jaguars Star’s Dominant Display vs. Texans

A lot has been made about Travis Hunter and how he would fare in the NFL. A former Heisman Trophy winner, he made a two-way playstyle his calling card. But his rookie season ended after seven games because of a knee injury, limiting Jacksonville’s opportunity to evaluate how sustainable that two-way role could be.

Sharpe questioned whether Hunter could sustain a full-time two-way workload in the NFL, though he believed Hunter could play defensive back full-time while contributing in select offensive packages. But after Hunter recorded a receiving touchdown and a fourth-quarter interception in Week 6, his wife, Leanna Lenee, took shots at the Hall of Famer on social media.

Leanna Lenee Hasn’t Forgotten Shannon Sharpe’s Comments About Travis Hunter

After the Jaguars traded up to draft Hunter, the hope was that they would be getting a star at wide receiver and cornerback. Hunter played on both sides as a rookie, but a knee injury ended his season after seven games before Jacksonville could fully evaluate the two-way role.

Sharpe questioned whether Hunter could play both offense and defense full-time in the NFL. But after a breakout performance, where he tallied an interception as well as a touchdown against the Houston Texans, Lenee is firing back at Sharpe.

“He can’t play both sides in the NFL,” she quoted the criticism against him directly, before adding, “TD & Interception.”

He finished with four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown, including a seven-yard score in the fourth quarter. He also came up with a pivotal defensive play late in the game.

After giving up a 42-yard reception to Nico Collins early in the game and later drawing an end zone pass-interference penalty against him, Hunter rebounded with a pivotal fourth-quarter interception. Ultimately, he intercepted C.J. Stroud in the end zone for the quarterback’s first interception of the season.

“Anyways…@shannonsharpe84,” she added in a separate story on Instagram. “When you speak about my husband, make sure you’re putting ‘TWO WAY’ player in front.”

After Lenee and Hunter had extensively shared their relationship on social media, Sharpe also shared some advice for the two of them. Wanting them to keep their private affairs private, he believed they needed to tone it down.

That could have contributed further to Lenee’s anger towards the Denver Broncos legend. However, even with all of the brilliance from Hunter individually, it wasn’t enough for the Jaguars to take a commanding lead in the division.

They ultimately lost 34-31 thanks to a last-second field goal for the Texans, dropping to 4-2. It remains to be seen if they can bounce back and keep control of the AFC South. But a critical loss to another playoff team from last season could be a major blow to their aspirations.
