Auston Trusty has shared the sad news that his father has passed away.
The Celtic defender posted an emotional tribute on Instagram on Wednesday evening, just hours after Shaun Maloney confirmed he would miss Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Celta Vigo due to a private matter.
Trusty wrote: “Dad, rest in peace.

Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland, Maloney said: “Auston Trusty has got a private matter, so he won’t make tomorrow.”
The defender’s Instagram post put the matter into a deeply personal context.
Trusty paid tribute to his father’s life, writing about 48 years of marriage, six children and eight grandchildren.
He also spoke about the pride he feels in carrying his family name.
Trusty wrote: “To wear the Trusty name on the back of my shirt will forever be my greatest honor. I couldn’t be prouder to be your son.”
The American defender joined Celtic to compete at a demanding club, but some moments go far beyond football.
But Trusty’s absence is fully understandable given the circumstances.
Everyone at CeltsAreHere sends our condolences to Auston Trusty and his family at this difficult time.
