No. 2 Duke defeated No. 9 Tennessee, 103-64, in an exhibition game Tuesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes discussed the Vols' performance at Duke.
"Really disappointed, and I told Jon (Scheyer), I'm sorry we didn't give him a better challenge tonight," Barnes said. "We know we've got a lot going on with our program, in terms of having so many young guys starting from scratch, but we're still looking to see what we can find in terms of a group of guys that are going to compete. Start of the game, where a couple things, we made a couple plays here or there, maybe not let them get so far out in front, but proud of a few guys.
"I thought our young guys came in and were flying around, but the first thing we've got to get as a team is a real fighting competitive spirit, and we haven't shown that at all in the last, really, 40 minutes of basketball, 50 minutes we've played, with the guys that we're really counting on."
The Vols will open their regular season on Nov. 3 versus Wofford. Tipoff between Tennessee and the Terriers is slated for 6 p.m. EST at Food City Center. SEC Network will televise the season opener.
