Stratford’s Freddie Slater will get his first taste of Formula 1 machinery during a grand prix weekend when he drives for Audi in practice sessions in Mexico City and Sao Paulo.
The 18-year-old will take to the track for first practice at the Mexico City Grand Prix on October 30 before a second outing at the Brazilian Grand Prix a week later.
Slater became the first driver to join Audi's driver development programme following the German manufacturer's entry into Formula 1 this season.
Audi racing director Allan McNish, who also heads the programme, said the appearances were a timely next step for Slater as he prepares to move up to Formula 2 in 2027.
"We have seen Freddie making great progress throughout recent years, both on and off the track," said McNish.
"It is the right time for Freddie to step up.
"These appearances in Mexico and Brazil will give him valuable experience of a Formula 1 race weekend, and another chance to continue his development before he steps up to Formula 2 next season."
Slater, who finished runner-up in his debut Formula 3 campaign this season, will race in F2 next year with front-running team Invicta.
He said: "Getting behind the wheel of an F1 car at a grand prix weekend is a big moment for me and something I've been dreaming of since I was a kid.
"I've learned a lot this year, and these free practice outings will be another opportunity to keep gaining on-track experience."
Invicta's Rafael Camara currently leads the F2 championship and will move up to Formula 1 with US-based Haas next season.
