'We all need to chip in' as Bristol City try and address lack of goals

It is three games in a row where City have drawn a blank now, with Scott Twine's penalty away at Charlton Athletic the only goal they have scored since the Championship resumed after the international break.

Bristol City midfielder Joe Williams has backed the Robins' forwards to get back among the goals soon, but said that they must start coming from all across the pitch.

It is three games in a row where City have drawn a blank now, with Scott Twine's penalty away at Charlton Athletic the only goal they have scored since the Championship resumed after the international break.

Indeed, it is just two goals in seven games that Michael Skubala's men have scored - a Dom Ballard header against Watford the other one - as finding the back of the net has been a struggle. City have scored just 12 goals in 12 games this season, and only three at Ashton Gate, which had led to them sliding down the table, currently sitting in 14th spot.

Ballard and Twine have got three goals each, while Lorent Tolaj, who joined for big money from Plymouth Argyle in the summer has two goals so far. Defenders Rob Dickie and Lisav Eissat have got one each, as have midfielders Jason Knight and Yu Hirakawa, but the likes of Jed Wallace, Sam Greenwood, Sam Bell, Tomi Horvat and Elijah Adebayo have yet to break their duck for the season.

Williams said that while he was confident that the goals from the frontmen would return, everyone has to chip in this season and take collective responsibility in front of goal as the burden to find the net cannot rest solely on the shoulders of the club’s strikers.

“Sometimes you go through phases like that in a season,” Williams said to Bristol City's official media post the 0-0 draw at Stoke City. “We back our two strikers. We know they know where the goal is, and we've got full belief in them.

“But it’s not just them, we need to chip in as well. Midfielders, defenders, wing-backs getting into the back post. It’s not just on the front players, it’s on the whole team, and we all need to take responsibility and start converting those chances."

And on the run which is now four without a win, he added: "This league's crazy. I think we were fifth, could have went third and then a week later you dropped down and you've just got to stay level with it really.

"We're hopeful we can go into next week and get a win but wee don't get too emotional about blips in the road and stuff. There's going to be loads of them, so we just need stay level and and keep going and that was a good performance to build on and keep going. It's a long way to go. So we're all confident in there. We know what we've got and we know we've got a good squad."

Next up for the Robins is another long journey up north as they face Bolton Wanderers on Saturday. And then it's two home games before the November international break with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City coming to Ashton Gate.
