The Bangladesh national cricket team has suffered a massive setback as fast bowler Nahid Rana is set to miss the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies due to a serious shoulder injury.

Rana has been diagnosed with a labrum tear, raising concerns about his fitness and recovery. His injury has also put his participation in Bangladesh's Test tour of South Africa in November in doubt. Earlier, PCB pushes for Champions Trophy formula for ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2028.

Nahid Rana ruled out of West Indies Test series with labrum tear

Nahid Rana has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against the West Indies with a labrum tear. The Bangladesh national cricket team management had sent Rana to Australia for further medical checks after he complained of discomfort.

The fast bowler’s problem was earlier believed to be linked to weakness in his back and pelvic area, but the latest assessment revealed a labrum tear. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed the injury after Rana underwent medical tests in Australia.

Rana was already left out of Bangladesh's 15-member squad for the first Test against West Indies in Mirpur. He is now expected to miss the entire two-match series, which begins on October 28.

Rana begins rehabilitation, expected to resume bowling on October 30

The Bangladesh fast bowler has received an injection and he has already started his rehabilitation program. Nahid Rana is expected to begin bowling on October 30, but his return to competitive cricket will depend on how well he recovers.

A BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, "Yes, a labrum tear has been detected. He has already been given an injection in Australia, and he has started his rehabilitation program. He is likely to bowl on Friday (October 30).”

Nahid Rana's South Africa tour in doubt, likely to make comeback in December

Rana's availability for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa remains uncertain. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is reportedly not confident that he will recover in time for the first Test. His chances of playing the second match will depend on his progress during rehabilitation.

If he fails to regain full fitness for the Test series, Rana could return to competitive cricket during Bangladesh's white-ball matches against South Africa in December. Amid this, Mitchell Santner explains why Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson did not bowl full quotas, provides injury updates.

The BCB official said, “If he fails to recover in time before the second Test (against South Africa), in that case he is likely to make a comeback to competitive cricket with the white-ball series against South Africa.”

Nahid Rana's injury nightmare

It was a big blow for Rana, who has been struggling with injuries for several months. He suffered a grade-two side strain during Bangladesh's tour of Zimbabwe in July. The injury forced him to miss the Australia tour, the Asian Games, and the one-off Test against Afghanistan.

The problems continued during rehabilitation when he suffered another injury to his glute, which ruled him out of the UAE tri-series involving Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.

After hosting the West Indies for two Tests, Bangladesh will travel to South Africa for a full tour featuring two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. The tour is scheduled to begin on November 15.
