Steve Cooper is a bit of a legend to fans of a certain age at Nottingham Forest following the team’s promotion from the EFL in 2022.
Cooper signed Morgan Gibbs-White for Forest, and the rest is history with that one. After failed spells with Leicester and Brondby, the head coach is now awaiting his next opportunity.
Cooper was a pundit on Friday Night Football as the Reds visited Ipswich Town. He’s shared what he’s adamant will happen with Forest as the season progresses.
TalkingPoints
Should we have kept Omari Hutchinson? How good would he be to have on the bench this season?
Glasner naturally has a bit of heat on him. The one win this season came against Aston Villa, but that came in mid-September, with Forest going a number of weeks without getting three points.
It’s becoming a bit of a situation for the Reds with Glasner’s team slipping into the relegation zone, with only Coventry and Sunderland below them.
Cooper believes that given time, Glasner will get things right, however, and has backed the head coach to stick Forest on the right path.
He said on Sky Sports: “You obviously want to be as high as you can, we talk about stats and data, and there are certain things you can’t get data on, like mentality, confidence and mindset, so the best thing to get that in place is results.
“I have no doubt that before long they will be in a higher position than they are now but it’s just about getting the mindset right, keeping confident and getting some luck. When that changes, they’ll go on a good run.”
Forest need wins pretty quickly, but there is no time for panicking. The Reds need to get up the table and take the heat away from Glasner, with Evangelos Marinakis not always the most hospitable owner for managers.
Glasner has proved that with time he can get things right and the challenge for him now is to find a win or two before the international break to make things a little bit more comfortable.
