There's sports, sports, and more sports with the NHL, NBA, soccer leagues, and more demanding our attention.
Over in hockey, the Toronto Maple Leafs are riding the high of a four-game win streak while Connor McDavid is making the impossible look very possible in hunting down Wayne Gretzky.
The Toronto Raptors made a promising start to the season but that has been tempered by a blowout loss on Sunday and the news that Kawhi Leonard is dealing with swelling in his left knee and was forced to miss the game.
Alphonso Davies is looking ever closer to his best self and Canada's short track stars are speeding their way to big medals.
Here's everything you need to know from the week that was in sports for Canadian athletes and teams.
Don't look now but the Toronto Maple Leafs are riding a wave of momentum. After solid wins over the San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and New York Rangers, the Leafs earned a signature win on Saturday night with a 7-2 dismantling of the extremely impressive Edmonton Oilers.
William Nylander scored twice to reach 300 career NHL goals to help drop the Oilers to 8-2-1 on the season. Edmonton still sits atop the Western conference.
Auston Matthews was held scoreless in the contest but his nine goals on the season has him third in the league behind Leon Draisaitl – who scored both Oilers goals – and Kirill Kaprizov.
Elsewhere, the Ottawa Senators put together an impressive performance to defeat the Rangers 7-4 and sit ahead of the Leafs in third in the East while the Montreal Canadiens are struggling to find a rhythm flip-flopping wins and losses. They sit 10 th in the East.
The Vancouver Canucks look headed toward another disastrous season after a ninth straight defeat left them relegated to the bottom of the West. The Calgary Flames are working their way away from the bottom with three straight wins.
The Toronto Raptors opened their 2026-27 campaign this past week and there was plenty of promise in winning the first two games.
In the season opener, at home against the Chicago Bulls, the Raptors set a franchise record for largest opening night victory in winning by 43. Immanuel Quickley was fantastic while Kawhi Leonard teased just enough of his superstar level.
On the road in Washington for the second game, the Raptors handled business against the Wizards with a wire-to-wire win despite Leonard and Quickley struggling. Scottie Barnes was fantastic with 28 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks, while RJ Barrett was excellent as well with 23 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
They faced a huge test on the road on Sunday against the very talented Minnesota Timberwolves and were spanked 117-94 as Barnes shockingly went scoreless and shot 0-for-12 in 28 minutes. What will concern Raptors fans more is that Leonard sat out the game due to swelling in his left knee and is undergoing further testing to determine the appropriate course of action.
Toronto is back in action on Wednesday against the Orlando Magic.
An extremely dramatic 3,000-metre short track relay final saw Italy and the Netherlands battling for first place until they crashed into each other on the final lap and Canada's anchor Florence Brunelle sped through to clinch gold.
It was such a wild finish you have to see it to believe it.
"Winning the gold, first World Tour in Vancouver. It's incredible," Winter Olympics star Courtney Sarault told CBC Sports. "It was definitely a tough race, and we had to adapt a lot and kind of find chances to choose when to go. I think that we executed it perfectly and we were able to secure the gold."
This Canadian team is in a bit of a transition, with six-time Olympic medallist Kim Boutin having retired after the Milano-Cortina Games. She helped the team win bronze there.
Connor McDavid picked up another couple assists against the Leafs to take his points tally to an astonishing 33 points across 11 games. He is 10 ahead of the next best in the league, who happens to be teammate Draisaitl, and is on course for a record-breaking season.
McDavid is currently on pace for 252 points in what is now an 84-game season, which would crush Wayne Gretzky's current record of 215 points from the 1985-86 season. There has never been another season where a player has collected at least 200 points.
The current Oilers captain could also become the fastest to 100 points in a season as Gretzky holds the record at 34 games. McDavid needs another 67 points in 22 games or fewer to topple that, which would require him maintaining his currently insane pace.
At the very least, McDavid appears destined to smash his own career-high of 153 points in a season, accomplished in '22-23.
Canadian Premier League side Forge FC Hamilton won their first-ever Voyageurs Cup after defeating CF Montreal in a penalty shootout in the final. The match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.
Forge FC also became the first non-MLS team to win the Canadian championship as one of the Vancouver Whitecaps, Toronto FC, or CF Montreal emerged victorious in the previous 18 editions.
Goalkeeper Dimitry Bertaud was the hero for the winners, saving a first-half penalty and making two more stops in the shootout. The performance earned him the George Gross Memorial Trophy as tournament MVP.
"We've got players in this country," said an ecstatic Forge head coach Bobby Smyrniotis on Thursday. "It's cultivating them, working with them, giving them platforms and putting them at the highest level of the game. When you do that in a structured approach with systemic development and pushing them, these are the results you get out of it."
Staying in the soccer world, Alphonso Davies showed he is back at his best with a goal for Bayern Munich against Arsenal in the Champions League.
Playing in a left-wing role and more advanced than his traditional left-back, Harry Kane sent a long through ball along the ground through the middle of the pitch which Davies hunted down and tucked away with his right foot.
Canadian striker Tani Oluwaseyi made it two goals in two Champions League encounters, firing home for Villareal against Liverpool in a thrilling 4-3 loss.
Over in the MLS, Toronto FC lost a crucial encounter 4-2 to Columbus, incurring a massive blow to their playoff hopes. After seven points from their previous three matches, things appeared to be trending the right way but TFC found themselves trailing 4-0 early in the second half of this road match.
They are now 11 th in the East, three points back of the final wildcard spot and also effectively out of the tie-breaker race trailing by three wins with three matches to play. CF Montreal is stuck to the bottom of the conference.
Over in the West, the Vancouver Whitecaps have a tense finish to clinch first place after losing 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids. Vancouver now leads FC Dallas by just one point with three games to play.
Leylah Fernandez's impressive run in China came to an end on Sunday as she lost the final 6-2, 6-2 to World No. 1 Elena Rybakina.
The Canadian came into the tournament unseeded and put together an impressive run, taking out seventh seed Elise Mertens 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the Round of 32 and then following it up with wins over Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Marie Bouzkova to reach the final.
She'll look to carry over that confidence to Tokyo, next.
