The Atlanta Falcons have had one of the better offensive lines in the NFL for the last few seasons, and that remains true after the first six weeks of the 2026 campaign. This unit has done an excellent job of opening up holes for running back Bijan Robinson, while the pass protection has been better than expected.
With that said, Atlanta's offensive line struggled to do much of anything for the majority of Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears. The Falcons rushed for just 63 yards and allowed a season-high five sacks. Some of this had to do with the team getting down early to the Bears but it wasn't an encouraging performance overall.
Even after this tough Week 6 showing, the Falcons still managed to move into the top 10 of Pro Football Focus' offensive line rankings. Atlanta moved up one spot to No. 10 overall going into NFL Week 7.
"Left tackle Jake Matthews surrendered just one pressure from 44 pass-blocking snaps in the loss to the Chicago Bears, but he was the only player to avoid allowing multiple pressures. No player struggled more in pass protection than right tackle Jawaan Taylor, who was credited with six pressures — a total that was just two fewer than the rest of the unit combined." - Gordon McGuinness, PFF
As mentioned above, Taylor had arguably his worst game of the season against the Bears. However, the former Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle has actually been solid in pass protection for large spurts. After Week 5, Taylor ranked fifth in pass-block win rate among offensive lineman, per ESPN.
The veteran still needs to work on consistency if he hopes to be a part of the team's long-term plans at right tackle. Taylor is one of several key players, including safety Jessie Bates, who will a free agent when the 2026 NFL season is over.
The Falcons offensive line will need to be at its absolute best to take down the undefeated San Francisco 49ers in NFL Week 7.
