Liverpool are set to reject any advances from Arsenal for Rio Ngumoha, with the England international instead on the verge of signing a new long-term contract at Anfield.
Article continues under the videoThe 18-year-old joined Liverpool from Chelsea’s academy in 2024 and he has established himself as a key first-team player over the past 12 months, earning himself his first senior England cap in the process.
Ngumoha’s place in the Liverpool team was threatened by the summer arrivals of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain and Victor Munoz from Osasuna, but he remains happy at the club and it’s understood that contract talks are progressing well.
This has been confirmed by The Daily Mail, who report that Ngumoha’s agent is locked in renewal negotiations with the Liverpool hierarchy. It’s claimed that it’s a case of ‘when’ not ‘if’ Ngumoha pens fresh terms at Anfield, with no concerns over his long-term future, despite the fact his current deal is due to expire in 2028.
Arsenal were among the clubs interested in signing the teenager over the summer and while their interest remains, Liverpool have decided that a sale will not be sanctioned under any circumstances, with Ngumpoha instead set to be rewarded with a lucrative new contract.
The England international has now racked up 39 senior games for the Reds, registering five goal contributions, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at a career peak of €39.2 million - the third-highest of any 18-year-old in world football.
When asked about his future after Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Brentford last weekend, amid contract extension talks, Ngumoha told reporters: “It's all with my agent now. I think it is all going well. I am not too sure.
“I just let the football do the talking, I enjoy playing and all of that is in the back of my mind. I just play for Liverpool, and hopefully I can carry on doing well.”
Meanwhile, after becoming the youngest Liverpool player to ever register an assist in the Champions League against Villarreal on Tuesday, Ngumoha admitted: “It’s the biggest club in the world and for me to get that record is something special, so I’ll take it all day!”
