LeBron James rolls his eyes as he responds to Donald Trump's scathing criticism
LeBron James speaks to the media

A fired-up Donald Trump was hoping for an apology from LeBron James, but the NBA superstar showed no indication of caring after he erased a 29-point deficit for the biggest comeback in his NBA career.

James all but ignored Trump's latest criticism after helping the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-106 on Thursday. When asked about the president's attack on his national anthem behavior, the four-time NBA champion appeared exasperated before suggesting the White House had nothing better to discuss.

The exchange followed Trump's demand that James apologize for appearing to stretch and mimic a golf swing during the anthem before Tuesday's season-opening victory over the New York Knicks.

It also followed Trump's former press advisor for the U.S. State Department resigning 24 hours into her role after throwing a drink on a Washington Wizards fan during a confrontation.

"Say that again?" James responded when a reporter first raised the subject during his postgame media session. After the question was repeated, he offered a short answer: "Yeah, yeah. It was a slow news day at the office, you know. Slow news day in the office."

James virtually laughed off the critique and never offered the apology Trump wanted.

The NBA icon has changed his traditional pre-game routine since joining the Sixers and debuted new handshakes with teammates before tip-off against the Cavs.

The president originally shared a Truth Social post showing James moving his arms during the national anthem in the season opener against the New York Knicks and deemed the act disrespectful.

"While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country!" Trump wrote. He branded James a "TOTAL DISGRACE" and said he should apologize to American military personnel who died defending the flag.

Most complaints implied James was working on his golf swing after picking up the habit less than three seasons ago, while still with the Los Angeles Lakers. Trump himself has been an avid golfer since childhood and owns over 13 courses globally.

The president complained before the Cavaliers built their first 29-point lead of the season in front of their home supporters. Tyrese Maxey powered the comeback with 32 points, Joel Embiid scored 24 and Jaylen Brown added 21.

James added 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals as Philadelphia erased the deficit and took a 2-0 lead. The 76ers will look to keep their undefeated record intact against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night.
