Nahshon Wright would welcome trade to Bears

The Chicago Bears could use more help in their secondary, and one of their former cornerbacks is frustrated with his role on the New York Jets. Could we see a reunion in the works?

Former Bears cornerback Nahshon Wright has spent more time on the bench than the field this year for the New York Jets and is sharing his frustrations with the media. On Wednesday, Wright spoke with reporters and didn't shy away from how he feels regarding his lack of playing opportunities. Wright said he's "definitely frustrated" when it comes to his role, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. And while there has been no formal trade request, Wright said, "I've expressed my feelings [to the team", via Cimini.

Through seven weeks of the 2026 season, Wright has played in just three games and has seen no snaps on defense. He has just one tackle on the season, something many wouldn't have seen coming for the player who was tied with Carolina Panthers phenom Jaycee Horn for the most interceptions by a cornerback in 2025.

At this point, Wright's role with the Jets is minimal at best, which begs the question as to whether or not he could be moved prior to the NFL trade deadline. If so, a reunion with the Bears would make plenty of sense, and it's something Wright himself would prefer.

A person with direct knowledge of Nahshon Wright's wishes tells Bears Wire he’d welcome a trade to the Bears. Wright flourished in Chicago last year under the tutelage of defensive backs coach Al Harris, totaling 80 tackles (three for loss), five interceptions, 11 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He earned Pro Bowl honors last year for the first time in his career and signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal worth up to $5 million with the Jets in the offseason.

Wright's interest in returning to Chicago should come as no surprise after he broke out last year. Does general manager Ryan Poles have similar feelings, though? The Bears decided to move on from Wright, but they could use depth at the cornerback position with someone who knows the system. Malik Muhammad and Tyrique Stevenson are currently banged up, while Jaylon Johnson hasn't looked the same since returning from a core injury late last season. Wright has his deficiencies in coverage but has proven to have a nose for the ball. Currently, the Bears cornerbacks have combined for just one interception all year long and have struggled at times to contain explosive plays.

If a trade were to materialize, it likely wouldn't cost the Bears much in terms of compensation. Wright is on a one-year deal, and the Jets wouldn't save any money were they to move off of him. A late-round pick swap should be enough if the Bears were interested. The Jets could also simply cut bait and release Wright, allowing him to sign with the Bears if the interest was mutual.

Wright is a boom-or-bust cornerback, and it would be foolish to expect him to replicate his 2025 success. That being said, he and Harris share a strong bond, and at worst, he's a depth player with experience. We'll see if anything happens over the next couple of weeks.his 2025 success.
