'This Is Not a Rookie,' 'The Warriors Have Done It Again' -- NBA World Raves As Yaxel Lendeborg Joins Stephen Curry in Franchise Record Books

Yaxel Lendeborg put on a show in Monday’s 134-114 road victory over the Denver Nuggets, etching his name in the Golden State Warriors’ franchise record books alongside Stephen Curry.

Lendeborg’s polished, versatile display in just his fourth NBA game helped Golden State get in the win column after a rocky 0-3 start, drawing high praise, including from Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

The Warriors carried a 60-56 edge into halftime. Curry, who finished with 24 points on perfect 8-for-8 shooting, checked out late in the third quarter with Golden State holding an 87-77 lead, and Draymond Green joined him on the bench. With both veterans watching, Lendeborg kept the pressure on with his relentless drives to the rim.

The 24-year-old finished with a career-high 31 points on 9-for-19 shooting (47.4%), a game-high 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1 block, posting a plus-27 plus-minus in 31 minutes. Cold from beyond the arc at 1-for-8 (12.5%), he made up for it by going 12-for-13 at the free-throw line (92.3%).

Lendeborg outperformed three-time MVP Nikola Jokić, who posted 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 11 assists as the Nuggets fell to 1-2.

The NBA’s X account wasted little time spotlighting Lendeborg’s milestone, sharing that he became the first Warriors rookie since Curry (Feb. 10, 2010) to record 30-plus points, 10-plus rebounds, and 5-plus assists in a single contest.

Much of the NBA world’s reaction focused on how refined Lendeborg’s game already looks so early in his career. ESPN’s Sam Block called him “one of the most polished rookies I’ve ever seen” before adding, “the Warriors have done it again.”

Basketball Performances put it more bluntly, declaring, “This is NOT a Rookie man.”

Lendeborg’s poise also turned attention to Golden State’s decision to select him No. 11 in the 2026 NBA Draft despite concerns about his age, with The Athletic’s Tony Jones viewing his strong start as a valuable lesson:

“I hope Yaxel teaches us to stop looking at people’s age during draft season and just look at whether that person can hoop or not.”

With the Warriors still digging out of an early-season hole, NBA content creator Carson Breber highlighted how vital Lendeborg will be to keeping the banged-up squad afloat.

“Steph and Yaxel are gonna keep the season alive until Jimmy gets back. Yaxel is that good. Literally does everything out there,” Breber wrote, adding, “I think the best comp for Yaxel is Aaron Gordon. Two huge forwards who do everything.”

NBA YouTuber Six Rings of Steel kept his verdict short and sweet: “Yaxel Lendeborg is so good for the NBA, dude is awesome.”

While Kerr acknowledged that Lendeborg made some mistakes, the veteran coach emphasized that the former Michigan standout still “dominated and took over.”

“He’s strong as an ox and skilled, and the way the game is played, he’s gonna be able to get to the line a lot,” Kerr said.

“And you saw tonight, basically in all the critical moments of the game, we just put the ball in his hands. And for a rookie to be that advanced already, it’s extremely rare. … He’s gonna be a guy who’s going to close games.”

Curry was every bit as complimentary in his postgame interview, raving, “He’s just got composure and feel. … His size on the court, he’s a matchup problem, but he’s never really in a hurry, and he’s starting to see the pictures really well.”

Lendeborg, who scored a team-high 26 points in Saturday’s 131-122 road loss to the Phoenix Suns, carries a 21.8-point-per-game scoring average into Wednesday’s road matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves (3-1) at Target Center, with Rookie of the Year buzz growing by the day.
