Unai Emery has confirmed that Johan Manzambi will miss Aston Villa’s Champions League match against Viking FK due to a "small injury."
The 21-year-old asked to be substituted in the second half of Villa’s win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park after picking up a knock.
Manzambi did not train at Bodymoor Heath ahead of Villa’s Champions League clash with Viking FK on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Emery confirmed that Matteo Ruggeri is expected to be sidelined for around two months with a hamstring injury.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also facing a spell on the sidelines and is not expected to return for another three to four weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the win over Newcastle.
“We are accepting all the injuries we had before. So many players we had injured in our process and we still have some, like Onana for a long time, like Matteo, which is more or less two months,” Emery said.
“He is coming back and joining us, Ian Maatsen. He joined us and he is training with us this week. Manzambi has a small injury. He is going to not be available for tomorrow, ruled out.
“Aaron Wan-Bissaka has an injury as well. More or less, he will be out for three or four weeks.”
Villa are targeting a third consecutive Champions League win on Wednesday night after victories over Club Brugge and Fenerbahce. Their 6-0 victory over Fenerbahce was their biggest-ever win in European competition and their record victory under Emery across all competitions.
