Alan Shearer has disagreed with his former teammate Chris Sutton on predicting the outcome of Liverpool's clash with Brighton at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds play host to the Seagulls in a match that is set to be an interesting one for both teams and their ability to stick around the top of the Premier League table for the rest of the season.

Andoni Iraola's side has started relatively well with three wins and three draws from the opening seven matches. With Chelsea's defeat earlier in the weekend, Liverpool has the chance to jump up to fourth with a victory, which would also place the team just one point behind the opposition on the day.

Brighton has made an impressive start to the campaign with five wins and one draw from the opening seven matches, with the league's top scorers knowing another triumph would put the side just two points away from top spot.

Considering the exploits of Fabian Hurzeler's side, which has already recorded a 3-0 win over Arsenal this season, it sets up an interesting challenge for Liverpool.

For those who like to predict match outcomes, it's a tough call. It is unclear which side could come out on top.

Former Premier League striker Sutton has given it a shot, predicting Brighton to run out as 3-1 winners, which would extend Liverpool's wait for a home league win beyond the six-month mark.

His old teammate, Shearer, doesn't agree though, and has backed the Reds to earn a draw at home. Speaking to The Metro, he said: "Brighton are flying, and they are playing some great football. It’ll be a really tough game for Liverpool.

"It tells you something that Brighton are going to Anfield, and I’m actually thinking of predicting they can go there and win because I just think they’ll pick Liverpool up in the way they play. Because of the uncertainty of Liverpool defensively, I think Brighton will score goals. I’m going to go score draw.

"Hurzeler is doing a phenomenal job. He’s a really young coach. But I just think the system at Brighton is such an incredible system. I don’t say it’s easy for any manager, but in terms of the continuity and how it works, I guess we’ve seen other managers leave, big managers leave.

"We’ve seen directors of football leave, but the constant at Brighton is they’ve sort of finished and punched above their weight. Now, I guess now their target is Champions League football? So yeah, he’s done an amazing job. He’s doing an amazing job."

It perhaps shows the position both teams are in, with Brighton's form being heavily discussed in comparison to Liverpool's, and an acknowledgment that the side is still adjusting and settling into a new way of working.

A victory for the Reds would be quite the statement, even though some other big clashes await the side, with Brighton clearly being the in-form side in the division.
