Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes one man is less faded as Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua gear up to collide on December 11.
The two British heavyweights will lock horns at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, with the winner set to be crowned a three-time world champion.
More significant than the WBA ‘super’ title, however, is the fact that, after around 10 years of being linked to one another, the pair have finally agreed to square off in a long-awaited Battle of Britain.
As a result of this prolonged saga, both are also at a stage where, at the respective ages of 38 and 37, the only fight that makes commercial and logical sense is between each other.
But while natural fans are surely hoping for some semblance of a competitive match, it would seem that Fury, for the most part, has been made a sizable pre-fight favourite.
This is perhaps because of his last two outings, which resulted in respective points and stoppage victories over Arslanbek Makhmudov and Mariusz Wach earlier this year.
Joshua, meanwhile, was compelled to survive two knockdowns before scoring a second-round finish over Kristian Prenga in July.
Even aside from these recent performances, though, Arum has told Fight Hub TV that he believes Fury is simply an all-round better boxer than ‘AJ’.
“I think Fury’s a far better boxer than Joshua. And I think, at this stage, he has more left than Joshua. So I look for Fury to knock him out.”
As Fury’s co-promoter, along with Queensberry boss Frank Warren, it is hardly surprising that Arum is favouring the ‘Gypsy King’ to win by knockout, though his prediction does line up with other big names without a horse in the race.
