Erling Haaland injury update: Man City star 'OK' after limping off vs Ipswich

Manchester City star Erling Haaland said he was "OK" after limping heavily at the end of Saturday's win at Ipswich.

Manchester City star Erling Haaland said he was "OK" after limping heavily at the end of Saturday's 3-2 win over Ipswich, per head coach Enzo Maresca.

Haaland went straight down the tunnel after the final whistle at the Etihad Stadium, sparking fears that the Norway star had suffered an injury.

The striker scored twice in the Oct. 17 victory, but Maresca said after the game that he was one of several City players who ended the match carrying some form of injury concern.

Aside from Haaland, the coach named Antoine Semenyo, Matheus Nunes, Nico O’Reilly and Mateo Kovacic as players who did not exit the match unscathed.

“We will see,” Maresca said in his post-match news conference. “Unfortunately in 10 minutes we had four or five players … Matheus, Kova, Erling, Antoine and Nico also … they are inside now but we will see, I don’t know, I don’t have any news at the moment.”

Maresca added that three players, including Haaland, had assured him that they were OK, with his main concern over the status of Semenyo.

“I asked all of them. Mateo said he was OK, Matheus said he was OK, Erling also said that he was OK," Maresca said. "Nico still has the same problem in his back that (he suffered) in the warm-up against Coventry. The only one we need to wait a little bit (for) is Antoine, and we will see.”

Asked if Haaland had a knee injury, Maresca replied: “I don’t know, I asked him and he said he was OK so hopefully it is nothing serious."

Haaland's brace took him to eight Premier League goals on the season, putting him three goals ahead in the Golden Boot race.

City is next in action in just three days, as it plays host to AEK Athens in the Champions League on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Even before the Ipswich match, Maresca said he would likely need to give Haaland and other stars a rest at some point soon.

“At some point we probably need to give him rest, some days off,” the City boss said of Haaland during his pre-game news conference.

“We are thinking about this not just with Erling because we have players, unfortunately or fortunately, they are playing all the games with us and all the games with the international teams.

“Elliot (Anderson), Enzo (Fernandez), Marc (Guehi), Erling, Rúben (Dias) – so at some point we probably need to give them some rest.”
