Ibrox Noise could not help but notice the score on Thursday evening and Celtic Europa League embarrassment.
Let us first of all give a quick history lesson to those uninformed.
After Rangers’ disastrous Champions League campaign of 2022/23, Celtic fans were only too quick and eager to mock Rangers’ performance and the simple fact that the team was rock bottom of the group.
Celtic fans came onto Ibrox Noise and our channels in their thousands in glee, with constant screenshots of the diabolical position Rangers were in.
Therefore, it was with a bit of amusement that their mockery of Rangers’ poor performance, while being ill prepared for Europe’s premier competition, has seen a cow or two come home to roost. The Celtic Europa League embarrassment has certainly brought back a few memories.
As we can all tell, Celtic fans aren’t too thrilled to see their own team in Europe’s second tier competition hitting the same point.
And, of course, there’s a difference here as well.
Rangers were in the so called Group of Death back in 2022/23. Ibrox Noise has offered some perspective here. That the teams in that group weren’t ending up as being as good as they seemed.
But at the end of the day, it was still Rangers up against Napoli, Liverpool and Ajax.
Consequently, on the face of it, this was a strong, strong group. It’s not that surprising that Rangers got very little out of it.
However, when it comes to Celtic, the way that Euro tourneys are run these days means there is a gradient of difficulty that is much kinder than it once was.
That is to say that while a team will face one, two or three stronger teams at the upper end of that competition, they will also face much lower sides as well.
And even against those, Celtic can’t get a point.
They sit rock bottom of the table, albeit not actually rock bottom by way of a (slightly) favourable goal difference.
Consequently, we have heard very little on Ibrox Noise from them mocking us.
It is absolute bitter irony and amusing irony to see how poorly Celtic have been doing. This is in Europe’s second tier competition after their fans so eagerly mocked Rangers all those years ago. That was for how poorly we did in Europe’s premier competition.
Put simply, the cows do always come home to roost, and the fact is that Celtic are not in a good state right now, even if they are still top of the domestic table.
The Celtic Europa League embarrassment has certainly silenced a few of those previously vocal supporters.
Subsequently, what does this all mean?
Depressingly, we will have another article on the implications of this in due course.
But for now, for the pure point scoring nonsense of it all, the Celtic Europa League embarrassment has given Rangers supporters a rather ironic reminder of the past.
It’s quiet isn’t it boys? We like it when it’s quiet.
