Celtic’s level was clear for all to see midweek as they were battered by Benfica, and the scrutiny they have faced since is probably justified.
Against Benfica on Thursday night, the Hoops were played off the park and found themselves 3-0 down at half-time, with the performance being utterly baffling.
Everyone knew it would be a tough game, but the least the players could show was some fight, something they didn’t, which is why they have faced serious backlash since.
In fact, Jason Cundy even went as far to brand them as a disgrace, with the former Chelsea man certainly not holding back.
The Hoops have come under serious fire since the result, but it is Cundy who has perhaps been the harshest, and it is clear that he enjoyed it a little too much.
“Celtic, I don’t know why they bother,” he said on talkSPORT with a big grin on his face.
“Again, they have disgraced UK football. What’s the point? They were smashed by Benfica, and it’s the same old, same old story.
“You know when you’re in the playground and need 11 players, Scottish clubs will always be the last to be picked.”
It is hard to disagree based on everything that is happening at the club this season, with fans certainly believing that they would kick-on based on all the players they brought in.
However, things keep going from bad to worse, and as Cundy alludes to later on in the show, perhaps Celtic are not as big as they think they are.
Everyone knows Celtic are one of the powerhouses of Scottish football, but where do they compare to all the clubs in the UK?
Well, Cundy doesn’t rate them highly, believing that them and Newcastle share something in common.
“Every one of them,” he said when asked how many English clubs are bigger than Celtic.
“That’s because you lot live in a bubble. You live in a bubble in Glasgow.
“Everyone in Newcastle thinks they are a massive football club; they are not. You are the Newcastle of the North. You guys are big in Glasgow, that’s it.”
