Journalist Fabrizio Romano says highly-rated Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott could now leave the club, acting as a potential huge boost for Liverpool.
The 23-year-old’s stock has risen greatly in the past 12 months or so, with Thomas Tuchel making him a key part of his England plans, heaping praise on him during the recent international break:
“First start and what a start, what a performance. He is so smooth on the ball, his decision making is at the highest level. He plays with so much confidence. He is so active, so confident. The work rate off the ball. He is just the complete package. He gave us a lot of mobility and a lot of variety and work rate in the centre of the pitch.”
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Scott throughout 2027, and taking to X, Romano has now provided a new update, saying a Bournemouth exit may be on the cards for the £1o0m-rated midfielder:
“Alex Scott could leave Bournemouth in January in case of big proposal. The stance has changed after meeting with agents as Bournemouth rejected all the proposals in the summer. Chelsea are still involved. Liverpool were keen also in July. Price tag expected to be over £100m, as BBC reports.”
Scott is an excellent young player who appears to be growing all the time, and Andoni Iraola knows him extremely well, lauding him when they worked together at Bournemouth:
“He has played for us as a number 10, a number eight; today as a number six and he has added a lot of defensive work and a lot of duel-winning to the ability he has on the ball. We know, if we give him good options on the ball, space to carry the ball, arrivals, he will give us this. I’m very happy because he is becoming a very, very complete player.”
Whether Scott is exactly what Liverpool need in the middle of the park is debatable, though, with the Reds desperate for more of a No.6 who can bring natural defensive cover and legs, acting as a good foil for the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Trey Nyoni is emerging as a genuinely good option in that respect, shining in Wednesday’s 6-3 victory away to LASK, but a more experienced option such as Monaco’s Lamine Camara could be ideal at the end of the season.
Scott is also arguably overpriced at a sizeable £100m, despite his clear qualities as a footballer, with the price tags of homegrown stars so often overblown.
If Liverpool end up with him in their squad, there would be plenty of positives, not least his relationship with Iraola, but transfer funds need to be spent more wisely.
If he was available for closer to £50m, it would feel like far better business, but if the Reds are going to go big on a midfielder, it has to be a deeper-lying figure, whether than be Camara, Adam Wharton or someone else.
