There was a lot of hype, noise, and excitement when Kasper Hogh joined Celtic from Bodo/Glimt this summer.
But all that hype quickly evaporated as Martin O’Neill is doing everything to try to bring the out-of-form Celtic striker back into some sort of form.
At the time of writing this article, Hogh is yet to score, but he did have several chances to put the ball into the back of the net against Hibs.
Callum Osmand started out wide again, and his extra quality means that Hogh is getting that extra bit of quality service in the final third.
That happened when Osmand provided a stunning cross with the outside of his boot, which beat Hibs’ backline and landed to Hogh at the far post, but he couldn’t get a touch on the ball.
And then Celtic’s club-record transfer had a gilt-edged chance from close range, only for his effort to be saved by Hibs goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger.
Positive signs from Hogh, as O’Neill, speaking to CelticPlayer before the game, is doing everything he can to get his struggling striker back on the scoresheet.
“Listen, he is still new to the club,” said O’Neill. “That’s the big thing. He came in. I know in the second game, he played three against Kilmarnock. Everybody thinks he is up and running, including myself.
“Then you hit a bit of a barren spell. That does affect confidence; there is no question about it. Strikers thrive on goals; that’s exactly what they live for, so it’s up to him. I thought he showed some signs of coming back again.
“He will do. I know I have said this to you before. He will score goals between now and the end of the season.”
