After reclaiming his spot between the posts, the Finland international acknowledges the healthy competition at the club.
Speaking before their Europa League game with Benfica, Sinisalo said: "Oh yeah, of course it is. Every footballer wants to play.
"That’s no different with me."
He recognises the challenge Johnstone presents but believes it brings out the best in everyone. "Sam’s been brilliant since he’s come in. The way he trains every day with me and Ross [Doohan] is really helpful to both of us.
"The competition only helps both of us."
However, Sinisalo is keen to establish himself as Celtic’s undisputed first choice. He added: "I suppose it goes game by game. But I’ve always said I want to be that guy. That’s never been different from the moment I arrived at the football club.
"I want to be that guy. I need to show that I’m playing in a way that there is no decision to be made.
"It’s quite simple as that, to be honest."
Sinisalo's determination to maintain his position is clear. He said: "If I’m the one doing the playing, then there’s nothing else to be spoken about if you don’t give people a reason to speak about things.
"So, yeah, if you’ve got the gloves, you’ve got to keep them."
