The Reds got the loss to West Brom out of the system and deserved victory against the Lilywhites.
Although Joe Worrall's opener was cancelled out, Ben Whiteman put Wrexham 2-1 up at the break and second half goals from strikers Sam Smith and Kieffer Moore secured victory.
Here's how the players rated.
ANTHONY PATTERSON: Preston had some chances and they equalised but didn’t really have any saves to make. 6
DOMINIC HYAM: Played as the right-sided centre-back and although Preston asked questions, the defence stood up to the task. 7
JOE WORRALL: Handed just his second start, he was a commanding figure at the back and also opened the scoring with a header. 7
CALLUM DOYLE: Preston did create openings but Wrexham defended well on the whole. 7
DANNY IMRAY: Had the assist for Worrall’s opener and also had a hand in the second goal. 7
BEN WHITEMAN: Played some superb passes against his former club, got his first Wrexham goal and also provided an assist. 8
MATTY JAMES: Available despite having a back problem but he was superb as he combined well with Whiteman in midfield. 7
CALLUM O’HARE: Another lively display and will be wondering how he didn’t open his Wrexham account. 7
JACQUES EKOMIE: Has been more effective down the left, needed to be more attack-minded at times. 6
SAM SMITH: Playing with two strikers worked and Smith was rewarded with his first goal of the season. 7
KIEFFER MOORE: Linked up well with Smith and the leading marksman completed the scoring. 7
SUBSTITUTES
ISSA KABORE: Fresh legs on the right for Imray. 6
GEORGE DOBSON: Helped see the game out. 6
BAILEY CADAMARTERI: Made one telling run but cross needed to be better. 6
OLLIE RATHBONE: It was game over when he came on in the last 10 minutes. 6
LEWIS O’BRIEN: A late substitute. 5
