Rory McIlroy will return to the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January 2027, aiming for a record-extending fifth Dallah Trophy after retaining his Masters title at Augusta
Rory McIlroy will return to Emirates Golf Club at the start of 2027 as he looks to win a record-extending fifth Dallah Trophy.
After successfully retaining his Masters title at Augusta National in April, the world number two and career grand slam winner heads into the tournament as a six-time major champion. By securing back-to-back green jackets in 2026, he joined an elite group alongside Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods, while also equaling Faldo's career tally of six major victories.
McIlroy has consistently preached his hope for a better work-life balance, as the 37-year-old wishes to spend more time with his family rather than on the golf course, and his 2026 schedule included all four major tournaments and just nine PGA Tour-sanctioned events.
"It’s been another incredible year, and to win the Masters again, this time with my parents there to share it with me, was very special. A memory I’ll cherish forever," said McIlroy.
"I love coming to Dubai and the UAE, and I've always considered Dubai a second home. It's where my professional career really started, and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic will always mean a lot to me.
"The support from the fans at Emirates Golf Club is always incredible, and I can't think of a better place to start the year."
Simon Corkill, Executive Tournament Director of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, is looking forward to McIlroy's return.
"We never take Rory's participation for granted, and to have him return as a back-to-back Masters champion is the perfect way to launch our 38th edition,” said Corkill.
"Alongside the world-class golf, we're giving fans more reasons than ever to join us, from Rooftop18 and an expanded Dallah Lounge to more entertainment, food and family activities in Tournament Town."
As the most decorated golfer in Hero Dubai Desert Classic history, McIlroy debuted as a 16-year-old amateur in 2006. At age 19, he earned his first professional win at Emirates Golf Club, followed by subsequent victories in 2015, 2023, and 2024.
"I love Dubai," McIlroy continued. "It holds so many great memories for me, first of which was coming here as a 16-year-old, and playing in the Dubai Desert Classic for the first time as an amateur, and I played twice as an amateur.
"In 2007, I made the cut, and that got me to world No. 1 in the amateur rankings, and two years later, I won my first professional event here.
"So it's a lot of great memories. I've met a lot of great people along the way. Honestly, I've always felt like it was a perfect place to start the year."
