There are two names already waiting in the wings as potential replacements for Phil Parkinson if Wrexham decide to make a change, GIVEMESPORT understands.
Parkinson has been in charge at the Racecourse Ground since 2021, becoming Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds' first and only current managerial appointment since they took control of the Welsh outfit in November 2020.
After narrowly missing out on promotion to the Football League in his first season in charge, Parkinson has led the Welsh club on an extraordinary run, taking them from the National League to the Championship in the next three seasons.
Wrexham almost made it into the Championship play-offs last season too, missing out by just two points on the final day of the season.
However, things have not started well in 2026/27. Ten games in they sit 17th with just two wins to their name and there is pressure on the manager's shoulders for the first time in a long time.
GMS' senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs believes the next few weeks could be pivotal for Parkinson's future under Reynolds and McElhenney.
Speaking in his exclusive GMS newsletter, Jacobs said: "Phil Parkinson and Wrexham is another story that could develop in the coming weeks.
"Of course, there's huge respect for Parkinson because of what he's done, and there's always been a kind of feeling that at ownership level, they'd love to be able to give Parkinson a job for life.
But inevitably in football, there is always a natural parting of ways and results at the moment are not good enough, so, there are some really important games ahead for Parkinson to try and turn things around.
"He's always been able to do so, by the way, at every juncture when this Wrexham project has, if we can call it this, wobbled, as they've gone from the National League all the way up to the Championship, but season on season on season expectations have risen and my information is that Wrexham went into this season with the goal of promotion.
"They're in the bottom half of the table at the moment, so it's a huge and critical decision now for Wrexham's ownership, and as an extension of that Steve Nixon, who's brand new in the job as sporting director, and he'll play a key role as to whether to back Parkinson or potentially consider a change."
Wrexham face bottom of the table Preston North end in their next match on Saturday, with another game against a team below them in the table against Sheffield United in two weeks' time, sandwiched by a trip to Blackburn Rovers.
Those three match could be crucial to Parkinson's future, with Jacobs revealing two managers who could be lined up to take over, should the axe be wielded.
"Several names are waiting in the wings with an interest in the role," he admitted. "I can give you two of them in particular. One is Steven Gerrard, who would be open, according to my information, to the role, if there's a vacancy.
"The other is Scott Parker, but no doubt there will be others on the list as well, and we can't yet say that Wrexham are shortlisting or anything to that degree."
