Wayne Rooney has turned on Manchester United's 'selfish' players after Bruno Fernandes questioned Michael Carrick's tactics, accusing the squad of behaving 'like babies' following their humiliating defeat by Como.
United were thrashed 4-1 by the Italian side on Wednesday, prompting captain Fernandes to question the team's tactical approach.
Rooney believes the players are protecting themselves at their manager's expense and warned that Martinez's intervention threatened to tear the dressing room apart.
Speaking on the United Stand podcast, the former United striker said the defender's comments had immediately struck him as an 'absolute nightmare'.
"That was the start. We've seen it now with Bruno and you're going to see it with more players because they don't want to take responsibility," he said.
"You can say whether Bruno was right or wrong in what he said but you have to take responsibility on the pitch. You have to take responsibility as a group of players.
