San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans (5) reacts after getting up from a play before walking off the field during the first half of an NFL football game against the Washington Commanders in Santa Clara

Mike Evans, San Francisco 49ers receiver, left the Monday night game (October 19, 2026) against the Washington Commanders due to an Achilles tendon injury, his team informed. He did not return to the field.

The 49ers won the match 23-17. Evans was ruled out early in the third quarter. Speaking about the injury, coach Kyle Shanahan said after the match that he apparently doesn't require additional testing on the Achilles. "Same thing that was bothering him all week," the coach said, as quoted by ESPN. "Acted up too much in the game and couldn't go. We'll see how he feels this week."

The wide receiver had been suffering an injury to the tendon the past week. He did not also practice leading up to the game, as reported by news agency AP. He has also been playing through two broken ribs.

Before leaving the game on Monday night, Evans had three catches for 94 yards in the first half. He exited the field after a 16-yard catch late in the second quarter. Evans was seen limping off the field and was trying to stretch out his lower leg in the tunnel before going back to the locker room. He didn't return for the second half and was ruled out for the game.

San Francisco linebacker Luke Gifford also left the game with a groin injury. The latest injury has made things bad to worse for the 49ers. The team is already missing several receivers, with Ricky Pearsall, De'Zhaun Stribling, Deebo Samuel, Demarcus Robinson, and Christian Kirk all sidelined. Robinson and Kirk are likely to make a return next week, although there has been no official confirmation regarding his return.

Evans, a six-time pro bowler, has played an instrumental role for the 49ers' offense in his first season in San Francisco. He has 27 catches for 420 yards and three touchdowns despite dealing with the broken ribs since Week 3.
