During the India vs New Zealand first T20I match of the five-match T20I series, at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, Arshdeep Singh used football skills to dismiss the dangerous-looking Bevon Jacobs. Jacobs was disappointed with how he was dismissed, as he was in brilliant form. The Kiwis have posted 225 runs in their 20 overs.

This is a massive series for the India National Cricket Team, as they have lost two of their last three away tours and won just one. Shreyas Iyer and his boys need to find a way to win the series and ease off the pressure, as there are huge expectations from the reigning T20 World Cup champions. Kiwis, on the other hand, will want to continue their dominance.

The incident happened in the 17.3 over; Arshdeep Singh bowled a brilliant yorker to Glenn Phillips, and he jammed it onto his feet. Then Bevon Jacob called for a quick single, as it was his call, and he failed to make his ground despite making a big dive, as his bat was in the air as he made his ground and Arshdeep Singh already broke the stumps.

Bevon Jacobs looked in firm control before he was dismissed for 31 off 16 deliveries; he smacked three sixes and no boundaries in his explosive short innings. He stitched a valuable partnership with Glenn Phillips of 73 runs, which helped to up the run rate in the middle overs. Jacobs will look to score more runs in the next game.

Glenn Phillips charged against India bowlers

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first. They made two changes from the last game against the West Indies, bringing in Nitish Kumar Reddy for Shivam Dube and Mayank Yadav for Prince Yadav. Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar got off to a good start with the new ball. But after two overs, it was all Tim Seifert and Finn Allen.

The two flamboyant Kiwi openers went on a rampage. Seifert scored 24 off 17 deliveries, smashing three fours and one six. Allen was the aggressor as he played a knock of 45 off 24 deliveries with five fours and two sixes. After the two got out, there was a small dip in the run rate, but Glenn Phillips took charge and went berserk.

He stitched partnerships with Daryl Mitchell, first off 42 runs, as the latter was back in the pavilion after scoring 28 runs off 19 balls. Then it was a fiery 73-run partnership off 32 balls from Jacobs, and Glenn Phillips helped the Black Caps get back on track.

India off to a flying start

Glenn Phillips was unbeaten on 82 off 40 deliveries, and he and Michael Bracewell stitched 30 off 15 balls as they posted a total of 225/4 in their 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav and Axar Patel picked one wicket each.

India, while chasing, are off to a flying start as they are 68 without loss with still 2 overs of the powerplay remaining, with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma going all guns blazing.
