Stefanos Tsitsipas is enjoying a timely return to form on the ATP Tour.

Injuries and a lack of form saw Tsitsipas drop to as low as 88th in the ATP rankings earlier this year. However, he is slowly but surely showing signs of the player he once was, although it remains to be seen if he can get back to his very best. He is a 13-time ATP champion, with one of his titles having arrived in Gstaad this year.

Moreover, Tsitsipas once reached number three in the world rankings, and made it to the finals of the 2021 French Open and 2023 Australian Open. He has endured many tough moments since then, but the 28-year-old could be heading for a significant boost given his new ATP ranking.

Stefanos Tsitsipas’s new ATP ranking could be of big significance

After three ATP 250 tournaments in Almaty, Lyon and Brussels, the men’s tennis rankings have been updated, although the top 10 has experienced very little change. The only movement is Arthur Fils rising two places to eighth, at the expense of Alex de Minaur.

However, further down the rankings, Tsitsipas has climbed six places to world number 33. It follows his run to the semifinals of the Almaty Open, where he was beaten by Nikoloz Basilashvili, who went on to lose to Daniil Medvedev in the final.

His rise is significant in more ways than one, with Tsitsipas currently in with a great chance of being seeded for the 2027 Australian Open. It would be a huge boost for the Greek ace, who would be seeded at a Grand Slam for the first time since Melbourne 2026.

Give us one bold prediction for the final months of the 2026 tennis season!

He fell in the second round of the first three Grand Slam events of the current campaign, before losing in the fourth round of the US Open, where he was knocked out by eventual finalist Ben Shelton.

But such is the ruthless nature of tennis, Tsitsipas has been hit with a setback immediately after his fine run at Almaty. The 28-year-old was on the entry list for this week’s Basel Open, but a right shoulder injury has forced him to withdraw from the tournament. He had been drawn against Taylor Fritz in the opening round of the ATP 500 tournament, but has just been replaced by lucky loser Rinky Hijikata.
