TGL has similarities with LIV Golf in that it offered something so different to what fans of the PGA Tour are used to that it was never going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

TGL will soon begin its third season, while the WTGL is also about to enjoy its inaugural campaign. There have been some good moments for the league, but there have been plenty of teething problems.

For those unaware, TGL sees two teams of PGA Tour stars face off in a golf simulator inside the SoFi Center. The arena also includes a green that can be moved around to present different challenges.

The players are mic’d up in the hope that fans will get to hear some of the trash talk that is commonplace during a Wednesday practice round. However, some players have been better than others at remembering that they are meant to entertain those watching at home.

TGL has made a number of extremely smart signings before 2027

In truth, the jury is still out on whether TGL is going to be a long-term success. But the announcement of the 2027 rosters should leave many feeling encouraged.

Lucas Glover, Adam Scott, and Xander Schauffele will no longer feature. While Schauffele is regularly cited as one of the funniest players on tour, it is no real shame to see that the two-time major champion has left given that his humour never really came across in TGL.

Meanwhile, the likes of Michael Brennan, Blades Brown, Ben James, Jackson Koivun, and Alex Fitzpatrick have joined the league. Elsewhere, Ryan Fox, Keith Mitchell, Ben Griffin, and Jake Knapp have also signed up.

Who will be the most surprising name to play at the 2027 Ryder Cup?

There are already a number of outside candidates to make the two teams at Adare Manor

Some of the best prospects on the PGA Tour are going to be introduced to a wider audience. They will hopefully be able to show more of their personality and perhaps attract more fans to tune in to PGA Tour events.

Of course, it does not help in this instance that someone like Koivun handles the media like a seasoned professional. But he showed at the Presidents Cup that he does have real charisma.

The intake of new signings will inject a lot of fresh energy into the league. Obviously, it will never mean as much as a PGA Tour event, but you can imagine some of the younger players being desperate to get one over on their peers in the SoFi Center, particularly as they may also have Rory McIlroy or Tiger Woods stood in close proximity.

TGL has a lot of work to do to really become must-see viewing, but the moves made for 2027 definitely feel like a big step in the right direction.
