Glenn Phillips produced a breathtaking century as New Zealand defeated India by 87 runs in the fourth T20I at Eden Park in Auckland on October 30, 2026. The right-handed batter smashed 107 off just 49 deliveries, helping the Black Caps post a record-breaking 259/7 before their bowlers restricted India to 172/9 in 20 overs.
Phillips' explosive innings, supported by Michael Bracewell's quickfire half-century, gave New Zealand their first victory of the five-match T20I series. India had already secured the series by winning the opening three matches, but the hosts finally responded with a dominant performance in Auckland.
Phillips was the standout performer with the bat, reaching his century in just 46 deliveries. His innings included 10 sixes and six fours, putting India's bowling attack under sustained pressure throughout the middle and death overs.
The New Zealand batter found an equally destructive partner in Bracewell, who scored 65 runs from only 25 balls. The pair added 115 runs for the fifth wicket in just 41 deliveries, transforming New Zealand's innings into a massive total.
Bracewell struck six sixes, while Phillips continued to find the boundary with remarkable consistency. Their partnership helped New Zealand finish at 259/7, the highest T20I total in the team's history.
The score also established a new benchmark against India in men's T20 internationals, surpassing England's previous record of 257/3 in 2026.
India struggled to contain New Zealand's aggressive batting, with Phillips particularly destructive against the pace attack.
One of the most expensive moments came when Nitish Kumar Reddy conceded 32 runs in a single over, as Phillips struck four consecutive sixes. Although Mayank Yadav picked up three wickets, he also conceded 48 runs.
New Zealand's lower middle order capitalised on the momentum created by Phillips and Bracewell, ensuring India faced a daunting target of 260.

India's chase got off to a disastrous start when Jacob Duffy dismissed Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan in the opening over. The early breakthroughs put immediate pressure on the visitors, who needed a strong start to remain in contention.
Duffy continued to trouble India's batting order and finished with impressive figures of 4/23. Mitchell Santner also contributed with two wickets for 24 runs as New Zealand maintained control throughout the innings. India eventually finished at 172/9, falling 87 runs short of the target.
Despite the defeat, India remain in control of the five-match series with a 3-1 lead. New Zealand's victory, however, provides the hosts with momentum and a confidence boost heading into the final encounter in Hamilton.
For the Black Caps, the fourth T20I was a statement performance built around Phillips' extraordinary century and Bracewell's explosive contribution.
India will now look to finish the series with another victory, while New Zealand have an opportunity to close the contest on a positive note in the final match.
