Davante Adams set for lengthy layoff as LA Rams rocked by injury blows

Poona Ford has also been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury

Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams is expected to miss six to 10 weeks after suffering a serious hamstring injury, coach Sean McVay announced Monday.

The mounting injury toll for the Rams (2-4) also includes veteran defensive tackle Poona Ford, ruled out for the year with a torn triceps, and defensive tackle Kobie Turner, headed to injured reserve with a groin problem. The preseason Super Bowl favorites have dropped three of their last four games.

Adams, a six-time Pro Bowl selection who led the NFL in touchdown catches last season, sustained the injury on a noncontact play late in Sunday's 18-16 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals. On the Rams' second-to-last offensive snap, he pulled up inside the end zone before limping off the field.

In his 13th NFL campaign, the 33-year-old wide receiver has recorded 30 catches for 480 yards and four touchdowns this year. Adams previously missed three late-season contests with a hamstring issue last year before coming back for postseason play.

"It's significant when you don't have a player like Davante, but we have to be able to adjust," McVay said. "His contributions can't be measured. You don't replace somebody like him, and so what you've got to do is you've got to be able to figure out what's the next right thing? What does that look like in terms of our vision? We'll have to adjust and adapt."

The loss of Adams leaves Los Angeles short on proven depth behind him and All-Pro wideout Puka Nacua. Konata Mumpfield currently ranks third among the team's wide receivers in production this season, tallying eight receptions for 127 yards.

A reliable third receiving option was similarly lacking for Los Angeles last year, when quarterback Matthew Stafford targeted secondary wideouts less often than any rival starting signal-caller in the playoffs.

Now in his second year with the Rams, nine-year NFL veteran Ford has logged just under 40% of the team's defensive snaps this term, working inside alongside Turner and Aaron Donald.

While Turner plays a heavier snap load for Los Angeles, the fourth-year pro with 22 tackles this season will likewise be sidelined for "a handful of games," McVay said.

McVay also confirmed that new kicker Blake Grupe is out for the season after tearing a ligament in his knee while making a tackle on kickoff coverage. Consequently, Los Angeles must recruit its third kicker of the campaign prior to visiting the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

On a more positive note, McVay noted star cornerback Trent McDuffie is "feeling much better" following a practice injury late last week that kept him out on Sunday. A decision on McDuffie's availability against Las Vegas will be made later in the week.
