The decision marks an unexpected switch between the posts for the Portuguese side ahead of the league-phase fixture.

Samuel Soares has served as the regular first-choice goalkeeper for Benfica this season, with Trubin largely restricted to occasional outings.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Silva opted to break his usual secrecy around team selection to name his starting stopper.

Silva said: "Regarding the goalkeepers, it’s also a matter of competition, and I can tell you today, it’s the only thing I’ll give you: Trubin will start the game tomorrow."

The 25-year-old Ukrainian international is already well acquainted with Celtic after facing the Parkhead club in European competition.

Trubin played against Celtic twice during the 2022/23 Champions League group stage while playing for Shakhtar Donetsk, with both encounters finishing in 1-1 draws.

Despite finding himself on the bench for domestic league fixtures this term, the shot-stopper started Benfica's 2-0 Europa League league-phase victory over AC Milan last month.

The goalkeeping reveal follows comments made by Silva three days ago, when he suggested players from Benfica's B team could feature against the Scottish champions.

Celtic have dealt with their own goalkeeping debates this season after Viljami Sinisalo spoke about losing his place to Sam Johnstone under Martin O'Neill earlier in the campaign.
