Tony Cascarino has delivered his verdict on former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard potentially making his return to football management.
Gerrard’s most successful spell in football management came at Ibrox, when he guided the Light Blues to their 55th Scottish Premiership title.
His Rangers side went invincible en route to the title, finishing with 102 points and winning 32 out of their 38 games.
Hellberg seems fond, but that hasn't translated to minutes…
Gerrard has been heavily linked with the Wrexham job, with pressure mounting on Phil Parkinson. However, Cascarino does not believe that the Liverpool legend is the right man for the job.
He believes that he did well at the Reds’ academy and then succeeded at Rangers, but his following stints at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq were underwhelming and did not last too long. While he admits that Gerrard deserves to return to management, he does not think he should join the Welsh club.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino said: “Steven’s done exceptionally well at Liverpool’s academy. He got in the Glasgow Rangers job done brilliantly well. It didn’t go well at Villa. He did okay for a period of time and things then went pear-shaped for him and then went to the Middle East and he didn’t keep his job very long there.
“He deserves an opportunity somewhere along the line. I don’t think he deserves the Wrexham job.”
