For the first time ever, the WNBA Finals are headed to Game 7 and both the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries are eyeing their first title.
The Valkyries will host the Dream in the Bay at 8pm ET on Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Chase Center, better known as Ballhalla.
The Dream has reached the Finals four times (2010, 2011, 2013 and 2026) since joining the league as an expansion team in 2008, but are without a championship title. Meanwhile, the Valkyries will be playing for their first title in the the franchise’s second year in the league.
The championship matchup will be a tale of two expansion teams — albeit a few years apart from each other — and two powerhouse defenses.
As Rhyne Howard put it, the Dream played with a “do or die” energy in Game 6, channeling their desperation into a 80-69 win over the Valkyries to force a Game 7.
Atlanta came out hot in front of a sold-out home crowd, with a dominant first quarter that resulted in the Valkyries trailing by 17.
After struggling in earlier games in the series to hit the mark on their three-pointers, the Dream had no problem on Thursday afternoon, posting up 13 from deep.
Heading into Game 7 with a title on the line, the Dream are hoping to carry over the same energy they brought to Game 6. On the other end of the court, the Valkyries should look to come out stronger off the jump at Ballhalla, hoping for less turnovers and to clean up their shooting.
