Netflix takes massive step toward becoming World Cup streaming power with FIFA deal
Reigning FIFA World Cup champions Spain will co-host the 2030 tournament

Netflix has reached an agreement to grow its expanding soccer portfolio ahead of the next FIFA Men's World Cup

Just months after this summer's FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, Netflix revealed it has secured a deal to broadcast all 104 matches of the 2030 tournament - scheduled to take place in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco - in both Spain and Andorra.

The World Cup, which will also include opening matches in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay as FIFA marks the competition's 100th anniversary, is slated to run from June 8 to July 21.

In a statement, Netflix's chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, said, "Few events unite people like the World Cup. I was in the stands this year as Spain lifted the trophy and witnessed the passion, the pride, the stories – they all become part of a nation's culture and are remembered for generations.

"With Spain set to host in 2030, we're thrilled to bring every match to fans across Spain and Andorra on Netflix. For Spanish football fans, welcoming the world as reigning champions on Netflix will make this a moment unlike any other.

"And, our expanding partnership with FIFA, including the Women's World Cup in 2027 (Brazil) and 2031 for the U.S. and Canada, reflects our continued commitment to bringing fans closer to the world's biggest sports moments."

FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström also provided a statement, reading, "We are pleased to build on our partnership with Netflix as we look ahead to the FIFA World Cup 2030.

"This will be a special edition of the tournament, and we look forward to working together to bring it to fans across Spain and Andorra. Our shared ambition is to bring fans closer to the game and enable as many people as possible to share in the excitement of the competition."

Netflix's coverage in Spain and Andorra will feature live streams of all 104 matches, along with pre-game, halftime, and post-game programming, plus a daily highlight show available on matchdays.

Additional content will be rolled out before the tournament kicks off to 'build excitement.'

Netflix also confirmed that the deal includes one match per matchday being offered free of charge in Spain. Additionally, every Spain match, along with a wider selection of games including the semi-finals and final, will be available nationally within Spain through a free-to-air broadcaster that has yet to be announced.

Taking place 100 years after the first tournament in Uruguay, which featured just 13 nations, including the U.S., Mexico, and the triumphant hosts, the majority of matches will be staged across Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. A total of three stadiums in Portugal, six in Morocco, and 11 in Spain will be utilized, with 23 potential venues currently under consideration.

Among these are Barcelona's Camp Nou and Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu, Benfica's Estádio da Luz, and the world's biggest soccer stadium — the Hassan II Stadium near Casablanca, Morocco, which is projected to hold 115,000 fans upon completion.
