It may not be an MMA bout, but Khamzat Chimaev is still planning to inflict plenty of damage on November 14.
On the same day that UFC 334 takes place at Madison Square Garden, ‘Borz’ will be in action elsewhere, as he continues to stay active in Real American Freestyle.
After beating Dillon Danis and Tyron Woodley so far, Chimaev will challenge Colby Covington at RAF Abu Dhabi for the cruiserweight crossover title.
The Chechen star was not able to get his hands on ‘Chaos’ inside the cage, but that does not mean his intentions for their match on the wrestling mat are any less violent.
Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev will clash for the cruiserweight crossover championship on November 14.
While he occupied a position near the top of the UFC welterweight division, Covington frequently targeted Chimaev with trash talk.
‘Borz’ is evidently planning to make his former MMA peer pay for those words when they headline the very first RAF event in Abu Dhabi next month.
Chimaev won’t have the opportunity to do the kind of damage he would have if the pair shared the Octagon, with strikes not permitted in the wrestling organization.
But the Chechen still thinks the promotion should be readying an ambulance at the Etihad Arena, given what he has planned for the current RAF cruiserweight crossover champion.
“I can break his neck, finally,” Chimaev said while appearing at Thursday’s press conference ahead of RAF 14.
“I know he’s not happy to come over there (to Abu Dhabi). He will need an ambulance to send him back,” he added.
Both men are undefeated under the RAF banner.
Covington’s full focus is on wrestling after leaving MMA, a decision that came when the UFC denied him a spot on the White House card in June.
The Miami native is 5-0 in RAF so far, most recently defending his belt against Belal Muhammad. Before that, he became the first man to beat Arman Tsarukyan in the promotion to win the inaugural crossover title.
