Glazers Manchester United sale date revealed

The Glazers bought Manchester United in 2005 and have since left the club drowning in debt, but their reign could soon come to an end.

Glazers Manchester United sale date revealed

The Glazer family’s controversial ownership of Manchester United has reached another crisis point, with supporters desperate to discover when the Americans might finally leave Old Trafford.

Since their leveraged takeover in 2005, the Glazers have faced relentless criticism over mounting debt, deteriorating facilities and years of disastrous footballing decisions.

United have spent enormous sums on transfers without winning the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

The club’s latest accounts reveal £689 million in borrowings, with almost £39 million paid in interest last season alone.

Meanwhile, Old Trafford’s deterioration and controversial ticket-price increases have intensified supporters’ anger.

Gary Neville recently demanded that the Glazers sell Manchester United, accusing the family of overseeing an unacceptable decline.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival in February 2024 initially promised change, but INEOS has attracted fierce criticism of its own.

Hundreds of redundancies, unpopular cost-cutting measures, questionable recruitment and repeated managerial upheaval have shattered that early optimism.

Michael Carrick’s side now sit 16th in the Premier League, having recorded just two victories in 12 competitive matches.

During Sunday’s humiliating 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth, furious supporters demanded the owners “sell the club and f*** off home”.

The Stretford End also directed abusive chants against United’s proposed new stadium.

With tensions emerging between the Glazers and Ratcliffe, fresh financial information has now identified a significant date for potential ownership change.

Manchester United sale timeline emerges

According to The Telegraph, 10 June 2029 could mark a crucial turning point in Manchester United’s ownership.

United’s recently refinanced $550 million loan contains provisions allowing repayment without an early penalty from that date, provided the arrangement qualifies as a stadium-financing event.

A separate £200 million revolving credit facility expires on 31 December 2029.

Financial expert Jamie Bajwa consequently identifies the second half of 2029 as a natural opportunity to restructure the Glazers’ historic debt.

That restructuring could allow Ratcliffe’s INEOS, which owns approximately 28.94% of United, to pursue majority control while financing the proposed 100,000-seat stadium.

However, the Glazers have not agreed to sell, and 2029 represents a potential financial opportunity rather than a confirmed departure date.
