Ravens expect Lamar Jackson to return for Week 8 showdown vs. Bills

The Baltimore Ravens expect quarterback Lamar Jackson to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's crucial Week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, providing a significant boost to a team trying to end a two-game losing streak.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter delivered the encouraging update Friday after Jackson completed his third consecutive full practice, the clearest indication yet that the two-time NFL MVP is ready to return from a high ankle sprain.

"We do think we will have Lamar this game," Minter said, according to the team's official social media account.

Jackson has missed Baltimore's past three games after suffering the ankle injury during the team's Week 4 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Tyler Huntley started in his absence, guiding the Ravens to a win over Atlanta before consecutive losses to Cleveland and Cincinnati.

Baltimore enters Sunday's matchup at 4-3, with its offense struggling to produce consistent results during Jackson's absence. The Ravens averaged 17.7 points across Huntley's three starts and failed to score in the second half of their past two games, putting additional pressure on a defense that has struggled to protect leads. The Ravens appeared close to getting Jackson back last week when he participated in three limited practices. However, the team ruled him out Saturday before its 35-13 loss to Cincinnati, extending his absence.

This week's developments have been considerably more encouraging.

Jackson returned as a full participant Wednesday and maintained that workload Thursday and Friday. His progress, combined with Minter's latest comments, makes his return against Buffalo increasingly likely.

Baltimore's offense has struggled to generate consistent rushing production without Jackson, including a difficult outing for Derrick Henry against Cincinnati. Henry managed just 45 rushing yards in the loss as the Bengals scored 35 unanswered points in the second half.

Jackson's presence would force Buffalo's defense to account for his ability to extend plays, create rushing lanes and produce explosive gains outside the pocket.

Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle acknowledged Thursday that the Ravens must prepare Jackson for the challenges of returning after an extended absence, emphasizing the importance of recreating game situations during practice. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens also understand that Jackson's return will not automatically resolve their problems.

Veteran left tackle Ronnie Stanley recently described Jackson as the NFL's best player while emphasizing that Baltimore cannot expect him to carry the entire team. Henry similarly identified Jackson as the offense's emotional leader but stressed the importance of improved execution across the roster. Baltimore Ravens

Sunday's matchup will feature Jackson against fellow star quarterback Josh Allen, with Buffalo entering Week 8 at 5-1.

For Baltimore, the stakes extend beyond a marquee quarterback matchup. The Ravens have lost consecutive AFC North games and need to regain momentum before their division deficit grows.

Minter's announcement represents the strongest indication yet that Jackson will be available. The final confirmation will come with the team's game-day decisions, but the Ravens are preparing to have their franchise quarterback back under center against the Bills.
