West Ham will try again to bring Axel Disasi back to the club after Crystal Palace fans turned on the defender, Hammers News can exclusively reveal.

A senior West Ham source has confirmed exclusively to Hammers News that Axel Disasi remains a target, with a January return possible if his loan spell at Crystal Palace is cut short and a summer reunion also realistic.

West Ham fans were devastated when Disasi snubbed a permanent move to the Hammers in favour of staying in the Premier League with Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window.

The French centre-back was a huge hit during his loan spell in east London in the second half of last season but subsequently chose the Eagles over the Hammers as he sealed a season-long loan from Chelsea to Selhurst Park.

But West Ham came close to securing Disasi permanently after having a £25m bid accepted by the Blues.

Hammers News reported at the time that Disasi asked the Hammers for two weeks to make his final decision. Ultimately, he felt he had to remain in the top flight, snubbing a return to the club his east London-based aunt supports in favour of a move to Palace.

While West Ham are looking like strong candidates to compete for the Championship title and secure an immediate return to the Premier League, it is fair to say Disasi’s move to Palace has not gone to plan.

West Ham fans committed football’s cardinal sin by falling in love with a loan player, such was the Frenchman’s impact at the London Stadium. At Palace, however, the reaction has been very different.

Disasi has come under fire from Palace supporters following their 3-2 Europa League defeat at Lyon on Thursday night, with fans taking to social media to criticise his performances.

Some Eagles supporters have gone as far as branding the 28-year-old one of the worst defenders to represent the club in modern times.

Others have even celebrated his suspension for this weekend’s crunch clash with Brighton, following his red card against Ipswich.

West Ham fans have not missed the opportunity to remind Disasi of the decision he made in the summer, with some telling the defender he needs to “come home”.

West Ham make major Disasi transfer decision as Palace fans turn

Hammers News put the situation to a senior source inside West Ham, who delivered a significant update on the club’s plans to bring the defender back.

Given the backlash from Palace fans and Disasi’s struggles at Selhurst Park, an early termination of his loan in January cannot be ruled out.

Palace could decide to cut short the arrangement, as West Ham have done with loan players in the past, including James Ward-Prowse.

Should that happen, a senior West Ham source has exclusively confirmed to Hammers News that the club’s interest remains, with the original bid potentially revised downwards given the further six months that will have elapsed on Disasi’s Chelsea contract.

Any move would also depend on the player being open to a return.

Disasi’s Palace deal is a straight loan without an option to buy, and a permanent move to Selhurst Park already looks a non-starter amid his struggles.

And the player’s close relationship with Nuno Espirito Santo could also be key.

The West Ham source told Hammers News: “He’s a player the manager really likes and was very popular with the squad.

“He loved his time here and became a real leader for us, which said a lot as a loan player. We felt Axel genuinely considered joining us in the summer but wanted to stay in the Premier League, which is understandable.

“If the chance arose to bring him back, it is definitely an option the club will consider. He’s a top player in the right environment and gets on very well with Nuno.”

Even if Disasi remains at Palace until the end of the season, West Ham have confirmed they would still consider bringing him back next summer, provided Nuno Espirito Santo gets the club promoted.

With West Ham lacking senior centre-back cover, a return for a player who made such a strong impression last season could prove a significant boost to their promotion ambitions.

For now, Disasi’s immediate future remains uncertain. But West Ham have made one thing clear: the door has not closed on a reunion.
