Although the Major League Baseball season is over, and the Minnesota Twins season ended even longer ago, there is still professional baseball being played this time of year, if you are down in Arizona.
Every fall, some of the best prospects in baseball gather down in the desert for the annual Arizona Fall League. This year, Minnesota didn’t send any top prospects, but did send ten youngsters in total, all of whom played for the Salt River Rafters.
The Twins’ most notable name down in Arizona is Kyle DeBarge — a 2024 draft pick, who has been among the hottest bats in the league. DeBarge has hit the cover off the ball through his first 17 games (.361 average, 1.094 OPS). I had the privilege of watching him play down there last week.
Beyond the slash line, DeBarge has continued to flash power. After 12 home runs this season for the Wind Surge, he has three down in Arizona. He has also swiped seven bags and has a near-even 16/13 K/BB.
DeBarge spent the entire year 2026 season at Double-A Wichita. The 33rd overall pick in 2024 (a compensation selection for losing Sonny Gray) has yet to settle in on the farm. He owns a .230 average and .690 OPS across 267 minor league games.
Obviously, he found his groove in the Arizona Fall League, where he was managed to excel against heightened competition. And on Wednesday, Kyle DeBarge was recognized for all that success when he was earned a nod in the Fall Stars Game this weekend.
DeBarge was drafted as a shortstop but he’s played a lot of second base so far in the Minnesota Twins organization. This fall, he’s played some outfield too, something he proved he could do at High-A Cedar Rapids in 2025.
On top of his 11 games in the infield (7 at 2B, 3 at 3B, 1 at SS), DeBarge has drawn four starts in center field for the River Rafters. At 5’9″ he isn’t a big guy, but there’s a lot to like about his profile. He’ll get a further chance to showcase it Sunday during the Fall Stars Game.
